In a previous post I talked about how nice it would be to have electrical built into my welding table so I can go ahead and plug all my stuff in once and not worry about finding cords, adapters, splitters, etc.
Now, I do realize that most welders these days are using cordless grinders, so they really don’t need outlets, but I’m not there yet, I’m still working with corded grinders.

So, yesterday I finally got around to getting some outlet boxes welded in, wire run, and so on for the electrical.
The idea is that I need to plug in one welder, three grinders, and one lamp, so I need five things plugged in to make my stuff work.
I pondered quite a bit about what I’d like to have, how it might look and work, and then went digging through my scrap bins.
I found an old cord with two outlets in line that I used to use for my carpentry saw station (but don’t anymore since most of my carpentry stuff is cordless) and decided to repurpose that for this project.
I also found another metal box and the accessories for a total of three, and some 12/3 cord with a nice outer jacket that would be great for this!
I got all my stuff together, laid out my outlets, flipped the table on its side, and got to work!

For the lamp, I repurposed an old standing lamp by removing one leg and the base, then cutting down and welding another leg to the height I wanted.
I wired it into the outlet underneath and mounted it into one of the dog holes of the table, with the intention that if I want to transport the table, I’ll just unscrew the base and lay the lamp inside the table underneath (I left enough cord slack for this).
Now I have a table that only needs one heavy duty cord run to it to power all the things, and has lights on it when I need them!

I think for my next project I’ll be looking to make something to hang/mount the welder to the side of the table, but I can also use the crate I keep all the stuff in as a base next to the table.
