Amateur Radio is a fun, world wide hobby that you can find down the street, around the corner, the next town over, across the country, or even around the world!
There’s a place or space for just about everyone, and since you’re interested, let’s scratch the surface a little bit and see if this is a good fit for you.
First off, some basics to know and abide by:
1) We’re a large, diverse group of folks from many different Races, Religions, Nationalities, and other various backgrounds or ways of life, with both genders. We also have many differently-abled or disabled folks, many of who have found their way into the hobby anyway!
2) We’re a family friendly group, where you can almost always bring the kids and plan to come out and play radio wherever we go.
3) We’re a self-policing organization in the United States; we do follow the rules of the FCC, who can levy fines or other punishments, but there are no ‘Radio Police’, so we take care of our own and each other.
4) We’re often heard halfway around the world, or at least halfway around town, so we always aim to be polite and stay away from vulgar, profane, or otherwise offensive words, phrases, or talk in general.
If you read all of these and none of that bothers you, then you’re off to a great start!
