Amatuer Radio is an exciting hobby that spans the world, reachs out into space, and connects everyone from far and near!
When we start talking about radios, it’s never long before the topic of HT’s comes up, and most Ham’s are quick to chime in with experience from their shelf of HT’s.
I recommend you start with the best you can comfortably afford, but don’t get too far into features you’re not familiar with or don’t want to use.
At a minimum:
Dual band (70 CM and 2 M)
Dual recieve and dual watch
Ability to use both bands at the same time (U+V, V+V, U+U)
Simple, standard connectors for accessories (Speaker mic, earphone, etc)
Ability to recharge using USB-C or other standard connector
Ability to program simply with software
I currently recommend the Tidradio H3 as it’s a solid HT that’s packed full of featurtes, and can be programmed with CHIRP.
